Sonia Becker is a Melbourne-based multidisciplinary artist, designer, and creative technologist. Her work spans painting, graphic design, web development, digital art, photography, and video editing, bridging traditional artistic practices with contemporary digital technologies.
Of French origin, Sonia Becker’s artistic style has been shaped by her time spent in Mauritius, South Africa, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand, infusing her work with diverse textures, colours, and perspectives. Her experiences in the USA notably inspired the painting Reach for the Sky, a homage to resilience and bold spirit.
Sonia holds a Bachelor of Design from Curtin University (Western Australia) and a Postgraduate Degree in Business and Administration from Massey University (New Zealand), where she focused on international marketing, HRM, consumer behaviour (psychology), and advertising. She also studied Graphic Art and Contemporary South African Art at the University of South Africa (Cape Town & Durban). Encouraged by her mother, an artist and art teacher, and her father, a Prosecutor and Deputy Commissioner of Social Security, Sonia developed a lifelong passion for the arts.
From an early age, Sonia won numerous international art competitions, including the Radio France Internationale art competition. Out of 6,000 participants worldwide, her artwork was selected among the top 12 winners. This international competition was organized by MRAP in Paris (Movement against Racism and for Friendship between Nations) and Radio France Internationale (R.F.I). The Honor Committee included distinguished French cultural figures such as Simone de Beauvoir, Jean Ferrat, Maxime Le Forestier, and Michel Piccoli. View more here
